Florida Beach Insider
For the Tampa Bay Times newspaper, a website dedicated to the coverage and ranking of every beach in Florida.
Though decommissioned in 2019, you can still experience a taste of Florida Beach Insider via the old Instagram account.
The Idea
Based on the popularity of a particular news article about local beaches, the advertising department wanted a whole website dedicated to Florida beach coverage.
The Solution
A website with dedicated pages for every beach in Florida, a "beach finder" map, and a beach rating system for users.
Furthermore, Florida Beach Insider partnered with Priceline to help users book vacations to these choice destinations.
My Role
Working with one stakeholder whose sole responsibility was the success of Florida Beach Insider, I presented and revised several graphical mock-ups for the site's visual language.
It was always a kick to see my logo around town.

With a logo, color scheme and website structure agreed upon, I set out to build the site in HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I worked very closely with the stakeholder and a Product Owner to craft a website they believed in while keeping everything user-accessible and SEO friendly.
I collaborated closely with a team who put together the Django back-end, focusing on data management and ease of use for data entry.
The Result

Florida Beach Insider did not achieve the expected traffic and was decommissioned in 2019.
